At about 4:45 p.m. Monday NCSO received a call to West Nassau High School in reference to a shooting.
Responding deputies determined the incident occurred at another location and the victim was taken to the school after that shooting.
Upon arrival deputies found five people in a vehicle, the victim included.
The victim, a 16-year-old, was found to have a single gunshot wound to the chest. Rescue took him to UF Health where he later died.
Detectives determined the shooting occurred in Spring Lake Estates at the intersection of Spring Lake Dr. and Deer Run Rd. The shooting was the result of a drug deal gone badly.
Witnesses identified the shooter, who will be charged later.
He was detained at the McDonald’s in Callahan.
He will face charges of violation of probation, possession of a firearm of a delinquent minor and then eventually could face a charge of second degree murder.
A second suspect involved will be charged with felony battery on a person over 65 (separate location than the shooting). He will also be charged with possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, possession of a firearm by a minor, tampering with evidence and pending charges of accessory after the fact to second degree murder. He was found in a wooded area near the neighborhood, the same wooded area where deputies found the handgun (9mm).

Everyone involved is either 16 or 17 years-old so information is still limited on what we will release.
