NASSAU COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

An Accredited Florida Law Enforcement Agency

Reserve Unit

The Reserve Unit is comprised of fully sworn law enforcement officers who volunteer their time to the community and our agency.

Most Reserve Deputies hold full time jobs elsewhere in the community and support the Sheriff’s Office in this role on a part-time basis. Many Reserve Deputies join the Sheriff’s Office Reserve Unit and utilize it as a training ground for future full time employment. This unit is an excellent starting point for anyone interested in a career in law enforcement.

Individuals applying for entry into the Reserve Unit must meet the same qualifications as a full time Deputy Sheriff and have completed a basic law enforcement academy before gaining entry.

Upon acceptance into the Reserve Unit Reserve members are required to work 48 hours per quarter with 24 of those hours as the second officer in a patrol unit. The remainder of the hours can be accomplished by assisting with special events, school related activity or any other support functions throughout the agency. A Reserve Deputy must be accompanied by a full time Deputy and has full arrest authority while working.

Our Reserve Unit meets once monthly and is also encouraged to participate in any or all in service training that is afforded full time Deputies.

Examples of credited time:

  • Attending reserve monthly meetings
  • Patrol support (ride-a-longs)
  • Agriculture/Marine support
  • Assisting Bailiff’s Division
  • Special events
  • Call-Outs
  • In-Service Training
  • Firearm re-qualification
  • School activities that require the presence of multiple Deputies

Emergency and Non-Emergency services of the Reserve Unit are available 24-hours a day and may be requested through the Special Operations Division Supervisor at 904-548-4028.

To be considered for a Reserve position, please complete the application and return to Human Resources.
