Stolen Snakes Recovered By NCSO Detectives
Yulee, Fla. – Sometime during the evening hours on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, the “Pet Stop” on US-1 in Callahan was burglarized and thirteen snakes were stolen. The majority of the snakes stolen were pythons valued at $4,585.
On Wednesday, April 29, 2015 the owner of the pet store located a Craig’s List posting with the stolen snakes listed for sale. The owner was able to positively identify one of the snakes based upon scars from previous injuries. Nassau County Sheriff’s Office Detectives were assigned to investigate the theft and began the process of attempting to recover the property and identify the person selling them.
Detectives were able to identify the suspect as Aaron Trent Devereaux, 26, from Callahan. The suspect had been arrested previously for stealing trailers from the Callahan area and selling them on Craig’s List. After his conviction, he was sentenced to 18 months in the Florida Prison System and was released from the Florida Division of Corrections on March 30, 2015.
Members of the NCSO Criminal Investigations Division and Narcotics Unit contacted the suspect and set up a transaction to purchase the snakes. Aaron Trent Devereaux was arrested for Burglary, Grand Theft, and Dealing in Stolen Property. He was booked into the Nassau County Jail.
