NCSO Detective receives the “Law Enforcement Commendation Medal”
from the Sons of the American Revolution
Yulee, Fla. – Nassau County Sheriff’s Office Detective Wayne Herrington was presented the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) Law Enforcement Commendation Medal on November 20, 2014 at their annual public safety appreciation luncheon in Jacksonville held at the San Jose Country Club.
Detective Herrington was assigned a case on October 24, 2013 in which it was reported that two juveniles were lured to provide nude photographs and sexually suggestive images to an adult. Detective Herrington was able to not only build a rapport with the victims and their parents, but also identify that there were more facets to the case than what was reported originally. Through his tireless efforts, Detective Herrington was able to identify two more victims and uncovered evidence tying the adult suspect to the victims and crimes. Detective Herrington spent countless hours reviewing information, subpoenaing records and reviewing conversations to build the strongest case possible against the suspect who was victimizing the most vulnerable citizens in our community. The suspect was arrested and, upon conviction, is facing a large prison sentence for the alleged crimes.
Detective Herrington started his career with the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office as a Reserve Deputy in 1997 and progressed through the agency, finally being assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division in 2005. Detective Herrington was chosen as one of the first “Crimes against Persons Detectives” within the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office. “Detective Herrington is a professional law enforcement officer who has proven himself to be an asset to the Criminal Investigations Division, the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Nassau County” said Sheriff Bill Leeper.
The SAR is a historical, educational, and patriotic, non-profit corporation which seeks to maintain and expand the meaning of patriotism, respect for our national symbols, and the value of American citizenship. SAR is composed of lineal descendants of the men who wintered at Valley Forge, signed the Declaration of Independence, fought the battles of the American Revolution, served in the Continental Congress, or otherwise supported the cause of American Independence.
