A Lee County resident and founder of the nonprofit Thank Our 1st Responders, is traveling across Florida with a unique mission: visit all 67 counties statewide and collect the signatures of each of Florida's sheriffs on his Volkswagen Beetle.

This week, Spencer Crutchley made a special stop at the Nassau County Sheriff's Office!

For Spencer, this passion project is deeply personal. His brother-in-law, a corrections deputy, died in an off-duty motorcycle accident in 2011. Through his journey, Spencer is honoring the men and women who dedicate their lives to serving and protecting others.

Thank you, Spencer, for reminding us that behind every badge is a person who makes a difference. 💙 ...

The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Yulee man on multiple charges for possessing and viewing Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) following a search warrant served at his Timbercreek residence on October 8.

Thomas Hamilton Verdery, 41, was charged with 10 counts of possession of CSAM.

The investigation began in May after a Nassau County IP address was identified in connection with suspected online activity involving CSAM. The information was provided to NCSO and the Northeast Florida INTERCEPT Task Force by a detective with the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.

On October 8, NCSO detectives and INTERCEPT Task Force officers served a search warrant at Verdery’s address. During the search, digital forensic examiners identified 10 files containing CSAM.

“This investigation is a reminder that protecting children requires law enforcement agencies to work together and follow the evidence where it leads,” Sheriff Bill Leeper said. “There is no place in our community for those who exploit children. We will continue working alongside our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners to identify offenders, build strong cases, and hold those responsible accountable.”

Hamilton was booked into the Nassau County Jail & Detention Center on October 8.

The Northeast Florida Inter-Agency Child Exploitation and Persons Trafficking Task Force (NEFL INTERCEPT) is comprised of investigators and analysts from Northeast Florida law enforcement agencies. This includes the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Nassau County Sheriff’s Office, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and Homeland Security Investigations.

NEFL INTERCEPT is built on a partnership with Operation Light Shine, a non-profit organization committed to providing law enforcement with resources and support to enhance criminal investigative capabilities, rescue victims, and hold offenders accountable. This multidisciplinary collaboration provides advanced technology, forensic capabilities, subject matter experts, and other resources dedicated to eliminating child exploitation and human trafficking. ...

With a continued commitment to transparency, the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office is sharing these monthly reports of the work being done across our agency.
Each month, we are highlighting the numbers behind the service provided by our deputies, dispatchers, corrections deputies, and civilian staff — including calls for service, arrests, traffic stops, public records requests, warrants served, crashes, and more.
These numbers represent more than statistics. They represent the people who answer the calls, respond when help is needed, keep our community safe, work behind the scenes, and serve Nassau County every day.
At the NCSO, community comes first. That’s the commitment we bring to work every day through community policing, public safety, and servant leadership. Below you'll find our report for September! ...
