Jacksonville, FL – A federal judge sentenced Troy Lyn Everett, 63, from Georgia, to 15 years in federal prison for attempted production of child sexual abuse material after he pleaded guilty in March 2025. Everett was also ordered to serve a 10-year term of supervised release and register as a sex offender.
According to court records, in 2024 Everett communicated with a NCSO undercover detective posing as a 14-year-old child on an online messaging application. Everett engaged the detective in a variety of sexually explicit messages and expressed a desire to have sex with who he thought was a child.
Everett biked more than an hour from his Georgia residence to an Atlanta bus station where he purchased a ticket to Jacksonville. Upon arrival, he was arrested and admitted to traveling for sex and making repeated requests for sexually explicit photos and videos from a person he believed to be 14-years-old.
Homeland Security Investigations, the Northeast Florida Intercept Task Force, and NCSO investigated this case. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John Cannizzaro.
This case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
