All,

I am saddened to inform you that Deputy Eric Oliver died in the line of duty this morning on A1A just west of Chester Road by the Gate convenience store. Deputy Oliver was assisting Border Patrol as they were checking some individuals in a vehicle parked at the store. One of the individuals in the vehicle fled on foot going across A1A towards the south. Deputy Oliver pursued the person on foot and was crossing A1A when a westbound vehicle struck him in the left side. Deputy Oliver sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. While we all mourn his loss, please keep his Mother and Father (Doug & Sharon Oliver) and especially his six year old daughter, Shelby Lynn Oliver, in your thoughts and prayers. Once funeral arrangement have been made we will let you know.

An escort is forming to honor Deputy Oliver at the Medical Examiner’s Office and will leave there about 1:30 PM – 1:45 PM to begin the escort to bring him back to Nassau County. They will be coming down AIA/Hwy 200 between 2:10 PM and 2:30 PM for all of those who would like to show their respects along the route.

God bless you and please stay safe!
