Nassau County Sheriff’s Office conducts “Operation Clean Sweep”

Yulee, Fla. – The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office today announced the results of “Operation Clean Sweep,” which was an operation to reduce illegal drug activity within Nassau County.

Over the past few months the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division with assistance of the Fernandina Beach Police Department has conducted numerous undercover drug operations within our community.  Based on these operations warrants were obtained on several individuals.

On May 16, 2013, a joint effort between NCSO and FBPD attempted to locate and arrest these numerous wanted felons within Nassau County.  During Operation Clean Sweep law enforcement officers were able to arrest 31 of these felons and take them off the streets.  Several of these arrests were also affected after illegal narcotics activity was discovered during this operation while conducting encounters with subjects in high drug traffic areas.  A total of 46 charges were made, which included 37 felonies and 9 misdemeanors.  More charges and more arrests are anticipated as a result of Operation Clean Sweep.

Numerous types of drugs were recovered ranging from Opium Derivative, Marijuana, Synthetic Marijuana, Crack Cocaine, Hash Oil, Psilocybin Mushrooms, Illegal Prescription Medication and items of Drug Paraphernalia.  All subjects were booked into the Nassau County Detention Facility on their respective charges.

“We will continue to conduct operations like this arresting buyers and sellers as we attempt to rid our neighborhoods in Nassau County of drug activity,” said Nassau Sheriff Bill Leeper. “Not only do we get the bad guy off the street, but we collect valuable information that will most assuredly help us solve other crimes,” he said.  “If you have knowledge of someone dealing illegal drugs within Nassau County please let us know” Leeper added.
