Jail-Inmate Mail Policy

The official mailing address for the facility is as follows:

For the safety and security of the inmates and staff at the Sheriff’s Office and Corrections Division, all incoming mail, with the exception of privileged/legal mail, must be in the form of a postcard only.


All postcards must meet the following requirements:

  • Postcard minimum size – 3.5 inches by 4.25 inches
  • Postcard maximum size – 5 inches by 7 inches
  • Must be written or typed in black or blue ink
  • Must include the inmate’s full name
  • Must include a complete return address

Unacceptable Postcards

which will be “Returned to Sender” or placed in the inmate’s property per policy:

  • Defaced or altered
  • Plastic or any type of wrappings
  • Marked with paint, pencil, magic marker or crayon
  • Contains any type of sticker or label-including address labels
  • Watermarks or stains.
  • Any biohazards, including lipsticks and perfumes.
  • Postcards containing any type of glue, glitter, or attachments of any kind
  • Contains depictions of nudity, weapons, or gang references.
  • Any postcards that have any type of picture attached to it
  • Any postcards that have a computerized generated photo
  • Oversized postcards.
  • Does not contain a return name and address

If a non-legal envelope is sent to an inmate, then it will be returned, unopened, to the sender.

Postcards shall not be censored unless it contains one or more of the following:

  • Plans for sending, or presence, of contraband
  • Plans for criminal activity
  • Instructions for the manufacture of weapons, drugs, drug paraphernalia, or alcoholic beverages
  • Contains depictions of nudity, weapons, or gang references.
  • Threats of blackmail or extortion
  • Plans for escape
  • Is in code or contains a code
  • Contains information which, if communicated, would create a serious danger of violence or physical harm to someone
  • Contains material which would, if used, create a serious danger to the security of the institution

Unauthorized items received through the mail will be considered contraband and the entire package will be confiscated.  Computer generated materials (downloaded from the internet) are not permitted.

Mail that is packaged in boxes will not be accepted.


After being incarcerated for one (1) month, inmates may receive up to three (3) photographs.  No larger than 4×6, and may receive three (3) additional photos every six (6) months thereafter.

Inmates are required to have an approved picture permit prior to the delivery of a set of photographs.  An inmate must request the permit by sending an inmate request to the Administrative Lieutenant.  Upon approval, the Lieutenant will send a copy of the approval/denial to the reception desk and a copy back to the inmate.

  • Pictures containing any type of gang signs will not be accepted.
  • Sexually explicit photographs or illustrations of a sexual nature will not be accepted.
  • No polarized pictures will be accepted

It is the inmate’s responsibility to notify the sender of the picture policy and to notify the sender of the permit number.  The permit number must be written on the outside of the envelope containing the pictures .Any letter or correspondence found within the envelope will not be forwarded to the inmate.

Rejected material will be considered contraband and/or placed in the inmate’s property.
